Most of us drive at least a few miles to work everyday. But very few of us get paid for it. Many Oklahoma lawmakers do and we're paying for it.
It might seem understandable for legislators who live say, in the panhandle or at least outside the metro, to get reimbursed for driving to the capitol during session.
But it may surprise you to know the number of our state leaders living within the shadows of the capitol who are collecting $.55 cents per mile to drive to and from work.
I found five Senators who live within 15 miles of the capitol, who received mileage reimbursement during the 2011 fiscal year. That adds up to $3429.96 of our tax dollars.
In the House, 14 members who live in the metro were paid for their mileage. Three of whom live just two miles from the capitol. The price tag: $9327.90.
