Weeden's Big Day Leads Cowboys To Blowout Win

It was another early finish for the Oklahoma State starters, as the Cowboys jumped out to a big lead early and dropped Texas Tech 66-6 to improve to 10-0 for the first time in school history.

Quarterback Brandon Weeden moved to second on the school's career passing list, passing head coach Mike Gundy, sitting just 149 yards behind Zac Robinson for the most in school history.

The 28-year-old senior came out firing on the Cowboys' opening drive, completing all four of his pass attempts for 47 yards, capped by a two-yard fade to Justin Blackmon. OSU's defense forced its second punt of the game and Weeden went back to work.

He connected on four of his six pass attempts for 24 yards and, after the drive was kept alive by a Texas Tech muffed punt, took the Cowboys' offense down to the two-yard line. Joseph Randle took care of the rest, putting OSU up 14-0 just seven minutes into the game.

The defense continued to keep the Red Raiders in check and forced yet another punt, and on the Cowboys' next drive Weeden was surgical.

He completed all five of his pass attempts on the drive, amassing 81 yards and his second score of the game, a 27-yard touchdown to a wide-open Josh Stewart, to head into the second quarter leading 21-0.

After getting the ball back on another Red Raiders punt, Weeden tried to take it all in big chunks finding Isaiah Anderson open for a 28-yard score, pulling ahead by four scores.

Ben McRoy fumbled the ensuing kick at the three-yard line and Stewart fell on it in the end zone to put OSU up 35-0 less than 30 seconds into the second quarter.

Randle tacked on two more touchdowns in the next 14 minutes, a one-yard score and a 10-yard score to head into the locker room with a commanding 49-0 lead.

Weeden finished the half completing 23 of his 28 pass attempts for 282 yards and three scores, with Josh Cooper coming away with six receptions for 106 yards and Randle finding the end zone three times.

Perhaps the only major mistake from the Cowboys came on the opening drive of the second half.

Weeden connected with Randle for an apparent first down, but the sophomore fumbled the ball and Cornelius Douglass recovered it for Texas Tech. The defender scooped it up and returned it 37 yards for a score, missing the PAT to make it a 49-6 deficit.

OSU came out looking to make up for its mistake on the next drive, as Weeden found Blackmon for a 48-yard touchdown to take a 56-6 lead with 11 minutes left on the clock.

Another Randle fumble ended the Cowboys next drive, but Weeden once again came in and made up for it. He found Stewart again, this time for a 66-yard score to take a 63-3 advantage and end the day for the starters with four minutes left to play in the third quarter.

Weeden finished the game with just one six incompletions in the contest, passing for 423 yards on five touchdowns on a 31-of-37 performance. Blackmon, who looks to repeat as the Biletnikoff Award winner, had just six receptions, but two went for scores and finished with 103 yards.

With his performance, Weeden has now passed for 3,635 yards on the year, which without last year's total would put him at ninth all-time in school history. The Cowboys' signal caller is now a perfect 10-0 on the road in his career, passing for 8,168 yards and 69 touchdowns in just two seasons.

The Cowboys don't have much time to rest this week, with a 7 p.m. Friday night matchup against the Iowa State Cyclones on ESPN.
