OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Barons have skated out to the early lead in the western division of the American Hockey League. The team has won 9 of its first 12 games.

And the Barons are winning off the ice as well, teaming with Habitat for Humanity to help build the community.

The swing of a hammer is a little shorter than these guys are used to.

"A lot of the guys can't, can't handle a hammer too good, they're not too good at it, but they're learning," says Bryan Helmer, a Barons defenseman.

Learning and doing a great job, lifting the walls and dreams of homeowner Darlene Alexander.

"They weren't there two hours ago. This has been a very good experience. I've met a lot of the Barons. It's getting up pretty quick," she says. "It's a dream come true. I didn't think that it was possible but I see before my eyes that it's possible."

"That's the most rewarding thing is that you start from the ground up and like your building walls and all of a sudden, a house appears. So it's pretty, pretty rewarding for the guys," says Barons coach Todd Nelson.

" The community's a big part of our job and to get out there and do something like this, to make someone's dream come true, it's really a pleasure for us," Helmer says.

The Barons will return to paint Alexander's home on December 6th, then on December 16th, for the dedication, just in time for Christmas for Darlene and her two kids.

But until then, the Barons have another home to think about, the Cox Center. They'll play home games on Friday and Saturday nights as the team tries to build on its winning start.
