Emergency crews rushed an elderly woman to the hospital after her house caught on fire Saturday evening.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m. at a house, located near Southeast 59th Street and Bryant.

According to fire officials, the fire alarm was turned in by an alarm company. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and flames. They extinguished the fire and found an elderly woman sitting in a recliner inside the house.

The woman was the only person in the house. She was taken to a local hospital because she was suffering from burns from the fire.

Fire officials said the fire was mainly contained to a recliner and an end table in the house. Officials stayed at the scene to investigate if smoking may caused the fire.
