Arrest Warrant Reveals Suspect Left, Returned During Search For Murdered OKC Girl

OKLAHOMA CITY – An arrest warrant has revealed new details about the night 10-year-old Jasmen Gonzalez of Oklahoma City was abducted and murdered in Carrollton, Texas.

Police arrested family friend Jose Sifuentes, 23, on Tuesday, November 1, on a first-degree murder complaint. Originally, he'd been called a person of interest, and detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials while police investigated Jasmen's murder.

During a news conference in Carrollton, Texas Tuesday morning, police said they believe Jasmen was taken from an apartment, then killed.

Jasmen and her family were in Carrollton visiting relatives when they attended a gathering the night of Saturday, October 29. Police say Sifuentes, the girl's cousin by marriage, was also there.

Jasmen was last seen sleeping around 10:30 p.m. in the master bedroom of the apartment.  About an hour later, a relative went into the room and discovered she was gone.  Police say there was a door in the bedroom that led to outdoors.

Officers from the Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison and Irving police departments launched a search for the girl. FBI agents and U.S. Marshals were also involved in searching the apartment complex and surrounding area.   Jasmen's body was found Sunday afternoon.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office determined she died from a stab wound to the chest. Earlier reports said there was evidence she was sexually assaulted. However, police and the Medical Examiner's office have not confirmed that.

Detectives learned Sifuentes was present during the earlier gathering, and that other occupants of the apartment couldn't account for his whereabouts when Jasmen disappeared.  When detectives spoke with his wife, she told them Sifuentes left for a short time while the family was looking for Jasmen.

When detectives spoke with Sifuentes, they said he lied to them about his birth date and some of his tattoos.  A police canine also detected the scent of decaying human tissue in Sifuentes' Lincoln Navigator.  And according to the arrest warrant, a police dog that sniffed a pair of Sifuentes' shoes established a trail from the apartment where Jasmen was abducted to where her body was found.

Police also said they believe Sifuentes acted alone, but have no motive at this time. They also said five executed search warrants, two homes and three vehicles, are what led them to Sifuentes. A weapon was found in one of the vehicles.

Police confirmed Sifuentes has been deported in the past and does have a criminal record, but only for non-violent offenses.

Gonzalez attended John Glenn Elementary School in the Western Heights Public School District.  She was in the fourth grade.
