NORMAN, Oklahoma – The University of Oklahoma will unveil a statue to its winningest coach—Barry Switzer on Saturday before OU's game against Texas A&M.

The ceremony will begin at 12:30 Nov. 5 and will take place east of the Barry Switzer Center near the Owen and Wilkinson statues.

Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas will be at the ceremony to introduce Switzer and a number of former coaches and players are expected to be in attendance as well.

Switzer served as head coach for the Sooners from 1973-1988 and won more games than any other coach in school history with a 157-29-4 mark including a conference record of 100-11-1.

Under Switzer, Oklahoma also won three national championships in 1974, 1975 and 1985, 12 Big Eight Conference championships and also made 13 bowl appearances—winning eight of those matchups.

For his efforts, Switzer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

Switzer will be the third coach recognized in this manner as statues of Bernie Owen and Bud Wilkinson were unveiled last season.

The sculpture was created by Jack Nortz--the head of the sculpture department at Oklahoma City's MTM.

Oklahoma will kick off against the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m.
