Cowboys' Sharp Named Lou Groza Semifinalist

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – Oklahoma State kicker Quinn Sharp has been named a semifinalist for the 2011 Lou Groza Award.

The list of possible recipients was narrowed to 20 and will be cut down once more to three finalists and this year's best place-kicker will we awarded the Groza trophy Thursday Dec. 8, 2011.

Quinn, a junior from Mansfield, Texas, has made 43-of-44 extra points this season and has connected on 11 of his 13 field goal attempts through seven games this season.

Furthermore, Sharp is No. 9 nationally in scoring with 10.86 points per game, and he set a school record earlier this season by going 10-for-10 on extra point tries against Kansas. He also leads the nation with 34 touchbacks on kickoffs, and he has led the country in that category each of the past two seasons.

The Cowboys boast last year's Lou Groza award winner in Dan Bailey who now plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

The award is named in honor of one of the all-time great kickers in football history, Lou Groza. Groza played 21 seasons for the Cleveland Browns setting numerous franchise records, including most games played, most points scored, and an amazing 107 consecutive games in which he scored a point. Groza was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1974.

Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS Head Coaches and SIDs, along with national and regional football writers, past Groza winners and others who will select the three finalists.

The presentation of the 2011 Lou Groza award will be Dec. 8.
