OKLAHOMA CITY – Dozens of people gathered at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City Friday to give an Oklahoma soldier a big welcome home.

Cpl. Scott Hopper is a deputy with the Payne County Sheriff's Office. In March 2011, he deployed with the Oklahoma National Guard to Afghanistan. In early September, he was shot in the arm during a fire fight. Cpl. Hopper was flown back to the U.S. and has been recovering in a military hospital in San Antonio.

Cpl. Hopper was finally deemed well enough to come home, and family and friends wanted to make sure he received a hero's welcome. His wife, Sheriff R.B. Hauf and other staff at the sheriff's office arranged to surprise him with a large group of loved ones, banners and flags.

The group cheered and cried as Cpl. Hopper stepped into the terminal. The Payne County Sheriff's Office also surprised him with the news he would be participating in Oklahoma State University's big homecoming parade Saturday morning. Cpl. Hopper is a big OSU fan, and he'll be riding with the sheriff's office during the procession.
