Your 2 Cents: Viewers Respond To Drug Testing Law For Welfare Applicants

Posted: Updated:

Kelly Ogle, News 9

I strongly disagree with a Florida judge who's blocked a new law there that would require welfare applicants to pass a drug test before they can get cash benefits.

I hope we pass a similar law here and in every state. Here's what you had to say.

Nick in Edmond first: "..they get welfare they have to pass the same drug test all WORKERS are required to do!"

Debbie from Chickasha: "..when it becomes a way of life for people who don't want to help themselves I have a problem."

Clint a former addict writes: "If an addict has $20 in their pocket, it WILL go to drugs! I think you are right on the money with your 2 cents!!"

Tim disagrees and asks: "..should we drug test all applicants for loans before any funds are released?"

Jeremiah answers that one: "Passing a drug test should be the first thing done for anyone seeking help from government agencies."

B asks: "..did you consider the child and or children that the person has that's applying for aid?"

Yes, put them in the custody of a relative and let them apply for assistance for them.

Finally, Hunt from Clinton says: "I know from experience that removing all supports in a drug addicts life can get him/her into a place we call the bottom with no options other than to seek assistance for their addiction."
