EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Edmond North Huskies lost their first game of the season Friday when Lawton blocked a potential game-tying field goal as time expired to win 18-15.

Lawton (6-2, 4-1) seemed to be on its way to a blowout in the first half. The Wolverines had touchdown passes of 43 and 25 yards to take a 12-0 lead, and then added a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown by Maurice Chandler to take an 18-0 lead into halftime.

But Edmond North (7-1, 4-1) slowly began to fight its way back into the game, starting with a 6-yard touchdown run by Jarion Tudman in the third quarter.

The Huskies added an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jack Courtney in the fourth quarter, and a successful two-point conversion cut the lead to three with time winding down.

But the Huskies had trouble with field goals all night. They had a chance to start the game's scoring in the first with a field goal, but it was blocked. They tried another in the third quarter, but a bad snap prevented the kicker from getting a shot at it. And those issues came back to the bite them.

With a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime on the final play, Lawton managed to record its second blocked kick of the game and seal its win.

The outcome gave Edmond North its first loss of the season and dropped it into a tie with Lawton for second place in the district, while simultaneously giving the Wolverines the tiebreaker.

The Huskies will have a chance to rise back into a tie for first place next week when they face rival Edmond Santa Fe, which remains undefeated in district play and beat Lawton earlier in the season. The Wolverines will move on to face Putnam City the same night.
