My 2 Cents: Protesting Corporate Greed

OKLAHOMA CITY -- When I first heard that some locals were going to take up the "Occupy Wall Street" protest and occupy downtown Oklahoma City, I admit I chuckled a bit.

Here we are in one of if not the strongest state economy in the nation right now. It's not great, but it's a lot better than most places.

But we've covered the protests a couple of nights, and although there doesn't seem to be any real unified message, the discourse and the conduct of the protesters has been admirable.

Some are protesting corporate greed, others being jobless, others standardized testing, environmental issues, no nukes, healthcare, you name it.

Some, it seems to me, are protesting just for the adventure of it.

But for most the underlying theme seems to be, this isn't what we were promised, what happened to the American dream?

And while I understand the need to vent, one element of this does concern me, the apparent class envy being stoked, and a desire to redistribute wealth.

I wish I had a million bucks, too, but I don't think you should take it from someone else to make it happen.

That kind of attitude will stunt our economic recovery, and ruin the next generation of capitalists we'll need to compete worldwide.

So protest corporate greed if you must, just remember you're doing it in a park generously donated by the Kerr McGee Corporation.
