NORMAN, Oklahoma – Norman entered Thursday with a perfect record and dominant wins in its last four games, but Southmoore came to town and ended that streak with a surprising 40-23 win.

The Tigers (5-1, 2-1) had beaten their previous four opponents by a combined score of 152-39, and seemed primed for another blowout. Fans did get to see a blowout, but not the one they expected.

The Sabercats' (3-3, 2-1) offense clicked all night, and Norman could not keep up. Southmoore built a 31-7 lead in the second half before Norman put together some late scoring drives to make the final score closer, but the game was never truly close.

The matchup featured two of the top running backs in the state, Norman's Donovan Roberts and Southmoore's Andrew Long. Roberts came into the night having a more successful, but Long stole the show Thursday.

Long finished with more than 250 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Roberts also had another strong day, gaining more than 150 yards and scoring a touchdown of his own.

Southmoore now has its first back-to-back wins of the season, but it will be a tall task to keep that streak going. Next week, the Sabercats will face the powerhouse Broken Arrow Tigers, whose only loss of the season came against Union.

Norman will get a chance to get back on the right track next week against winless Putnam City West.
