OKLAHOMA CITY – It was no surprise but it was still certainly an honor as Barry Sanders, Jr. accepted his jersey and helmet on Tuesday to play in the Army All-American game.

Sanders was the first player selected to play in the 2012 game in San Antonio. The U.S. Army All-American Game will take place at noon on Jan. 7.

Sanders said he would still be honored no matter when he was announced, but it still felt good to know the committee was eyeing him.

"It feels good to know that they felt like I was important and share the values and the things they believe in," he said.

Sanders was presented with the jersey at a ceremony at Heritage Hall High School in front of his friends and family.

His dad, former OSU and NFL running back Barry Sanders, was not there, but published the following tweet on Tuesday:

"Really proud of my son Barry. He is being honored today in OKC for being selected as HS all-american. He is becoming quite a man!"

Barry Sanders, Jr. has narrowed his recruiting list down to four: Oklahoma State, Alabama, Florida State and Stanford.

He said he will make his decision at the All-American game in January.

News 9's Jessica Coody was on hand to chat with Sanders about his selection, his team's season so far and his college future.
