NORMAN, Oklahoma – In what amounted to a tune-up game before facing rival Texas, the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners cruised to a 62-6 win over Ball State Saturday.

The Sooners started relatively slow and held a lead of just 10-6 in the second quarter. But that was when Tony Jefferson took over.

Jefferson recorded interceptions on three consecutive drives, all of which resulted in touchdowns for the offense. Jefferson's three interceptions tied a school single-game record, and he accomplished it in the span of five minutes.

The points after Jefferson's interceptions widened the Sooners' lead to 31-6, and the rout was on. OU went on to score a total of 52 consecutive points, and Ball State could do nothing to stop the Sooners' offense.

Landry Jones finished with 425 passing yards and five touchdowns, while Dominique Whaley rushed for 109 yards, and Jaz Reynolds and Ryan Broyles each had more than 100 receiving yards.

Broyles' four catches on the day gave him a total of 304 in his career, a new Big 12 conference record and only 12 receptions shy of the NCAA record. His biggest catch of the day came on a 64-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, which began a span in which OU scored three touchdowns in only 68 seconds.

That span ended with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by Tom Wort, which marked the Sooners' first defensive touchdown of the season. The defense held Ball State to only 214 total yards and 10 first downs, and forced a total of four turnovers.

The Sooners' only question mark continues to be the kicking game. Michael Hunnicutt made his second straight start as place kicker since replacing Jimmy Stevens, and made two of his three attempts. But his one miss came from only 30 yards away.

The Sooners will travel to Dallas next week to face Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns also are undefeated and are coming off a dominant win over Iowa State Saturday.
