AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – OSU freshman tennis player Meghan Blevins pulled off an impressive feat on Wednesday, knocking off top-seeded player Alexis King at the Amelia Island $10,000 Women's Championships.

Blevins received a wildcard bid to play in the event, and therefore draw a tough matchup in No. 1 overall seed Alexis King.

King is the 412th-ranked player in the world and a former All-American in college at the University of Florida. Blevins has played in only three collegiate singles matches.

If Blevins' victory wasn't enough, she did it in two sets, 6-2, 7-5, to advance in the tournament and pick up her first professional win.

"I am really proud of Meghan for getting the victory and working hard this year to make some adjustments in her game," her coach Chris Young said. "She was able to perform really well today and hopefully this is the first of many big wins for her."

Blevins' next opponent won't be much easier, as she takes on Taylor Townsend, the 439th-ranked player in the world, on Thursday.
