LUTHER, Oklahoma – Police are still searching for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap two girls in Luther Tuesday night.

Police said the attack happened at around 7:30 p.m. in the 400 block of North Dogwood. The seven-year-old and the nine-year-old were playing in the park when a man drove up on a black Harley Davidson Sportster with saddlebags, and attempted to kidnap them. One of the girls began fighting off the man.

No arrests have been made in the case and the community is uneasy.

"Since this happened, we are going to make sure to have extra sets of eyes out there," Brian Irvine, Luther Elementary School principal said.

As a father of two, Irvine said he doesn't even want to think about what could have happened here where children and families play almost every day in Luther.

"I like to think of it like Mayberry kind of because it is a very close-knit community," he said.

As the elementary school principal, it's Irvine's job to educate and keep everyone's kids safe at school.

"Our children have been educated on what to do, which is why the girls are safe now," he said.

The man who reportedly accosted the young Luther students in the park Tuesday night told them he was going to take them home and cut them up, police said.

The girls suffered cuts and bruises police reported.

Irvine said bad things can happen anywhere and parents should never let their guard down, even in a small town.

"There are bad people in this world, unfortunately," he said.  "It could have happened anywhere."

Now more than ever, Irvine said, he wants his community to stick together

"Everyone's here to help support each other," he said.

Luther police said they have checked surveillance tapes from cameras around town and they did not find any with the suspect on them.
