OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City will host a special collection for unwanted ammunition, computers, tires and prescription drugs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15 at the State Fairgrounds.

According to the city's public information office, the drop off site will be on the south side of the Fairgrounds, east of the arena. Residents are advised to enter the Fairgrounds on Gordon Cooper Boulevard, Gate 5 from North May Avenue.

"Residents just have to drive to the fairgrounds and our crews will do all the heavy lifting," said Environmental Protection Manager Raymond Melton. "We've made the drop off process as convenient as possible so people will continue participating."

According to the city's public information office, they do not accept syringes, liquids, inhalers, tire rims and wheels. The collection is open to Oklahoma City residents only. Recyclers should bring their current Oklahoma City water bill stub to prove residency.

Residents dropped off more than 76,000 pounds of hazardous waste during the spring collection event. Crews collected 2245 tires, 28 pallets of computers, 3750 rounds of ammunition and 247 pounds of prescriptions.

The next special collection will be spring 2012.
