NORMAN, Oklahoma – University of Oklahoma running back Jermie Calhoun is transferring away from OU.

CBS Sports reported Monday night that Bob Stoops had announced that Calhoun, a junior had decided to transfer.

"I understand it sometimes; I sometimes wonder the timing of it in that there's a long season here. Your opportunities may come more sooner than you think," said Stops at his weekly press conference Tuesday.

After redshirting in 2008, Calhoun rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown on 45 carries in 2009 and in 2010 he tallied 11 carries in before suffering a serious knee injury against Colorado.

So far this season he has served as the number two running back for the Sooners.

According to ESPN, Calhoun will stay at Oklahoma through the semester.

"If you're not willing to stick it out and wait for those opportunities its unfortunate just because if you're not going to play somewhere right now you might has well wait until the end of the year," said Stoops.

The Ben Wheeler, Texas native came to Oklahoma was one of the nation's top running backs in the 2008 class.

Calhoun isn't the first to transfer though. Jonathan Miller also announced his transfer earlier this month.

"I understand it to a certain point some younger guys are playing in front of you that you want your opportunities," said Stoops. "You feel bad but you can understand it to some degree and again I just always hope the timings right for them to take advantage of that."
