NORMAN, Oklahoma – A police canine that helped the Norman Police Department sniff out narcotics and drug money has died.

Pablo, an 8-year-old German Shepherd, died suddenly Saturday, September 10, from natural causes. Pablo and his handler, Sergeant Kellee Robertson, were assigned to the Special Investigation Division as a drug interdiction team.

During Pablo's career, the canine helped police seize marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine worth more than $300,000. He also led officers to more than $270,000 in drug money.

In addition to helping police track down drug criminals, Pablo was also the lead canine for community interaction in Norman. He performed demonstrations at schools and in conjunction with the Norman Chamber of Commerce.

Norman police say there will be a memorial service for Pablo at a later date.
