I was reminded again today of the greatness that was once NASA, and the sadness that we're witnessing its gradual demise.

NASA, I'm quite sure with deliberate intent, has released some stunning photos of the moon that bear witness to our greatest achievements in space.

Those squiggly lines on the Moon's surface are the footprints left behind more than 40 years ago by our Apollo astronauts.

Some of the tracks are actually the tire marks of the Lunar Rovers those men with the right stuff drove on the moon.

These remarkable photos were taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter which was flying just 13 miles above the Moon's surface.

It's just fascinating to look back. The Lunar Rovers, a flag, some experiments they're still sitting there just as we left them back in 1969, 1971, and 1972.

Half of the men that took them there have died, the rest are in their 70's and 80's.

They're the evidence of a giant leap for mankind, and a painful reminder that our space program has taken more than just a small step backwards.
