OKLAHOMA CITY – Funeral services have been set for former University of Oklahoma defensive end Lee Roy Selmon.

Two services will be held for the All-American who passed away Sunday, one in Tampa, Fla. and one in his home state of Oklahoma.

The Tampa Tribune reports a public viewing will be held Thursday at Exciting Central Baptist Church in Tampa and a funeral service Friday at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, Fla.

A funeral service also is set for Saturday at The First Southern Baptist Church at 6400 S. Sooner Road in Oklahoma City.

The 56-year-old suffered a stroke at his home in Tampa on Friday and died on Sunday afternoon at a Tampa hospital.

Selmon played for the Sooners from 1972-1975 and finished his college career with 335 tackles and 40 sacks. He was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1976 NFL Draft and was the first player ever selected by the Buccaneers, who were an expansion team at the time.

Selmon went on to six consecutive Pro Bowls and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1979. In 1988 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.

After his football career, Selmon served as the athletic director at the University of South Florida.

The Tampa Tribune also reports that USF and the Buccaneers will honor Selmon at this weekend's games. Last Saturday USF player wore decals of No. 63 on their helmets, Selmon's number when he played with the Bucs, during their victory over Notre Dame.

The Selmon family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to further honor Selmon's memory consider making donations to Abe Brown Ministries by calling (813) 248-3224 or the University of South Florida Foundation Partnership for Athletics by calling (813) 974-2125.
