Several Wildfires Burn Near Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- A good portion of the state is at risk of wildfires with several new fires breaking out on Wednesday.

Firefighters are battling several large wildfires in fields near Shawnee.

The Oklahoma County Emergency Management confirmed the largest of these wildfires is burning near Twin Lakes at Lake Road and Post Office Neck Road, close to Highway 102.

The Shawnee Fire Department confirmed that there are now two additional fire spots the department is working on. One is located near Bethel Road, approximately three miles east of the main fire.

A third fire is located near Drummond Road, approximately two miles east of the original fire, according to the Shawnee Fire Department.

The fires have consumed three barns and two outbuildings at this point.

The main fire near Twin Lakes at Lake Road and Post Office Neck Road has burned at least 200 acres to this point, the department confirmed.

The fire near Bethel Road has burned at least 60 acres and consumed a barn full of hay.

The wind near Shawnee is coming from the South at 19 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

Crews on Tuesday also fought fires near Tecumseh in Pottawatomie County, near Crowder in Pittsburg County, in Grady County near Rush Springs and in Seminole County near Seminole.

Several homes have been damaged or destroyed in those fires.
