UPDATE: PECAN GROVE, Texas -- After a nationwide manhunt, the FBI has captured an Oklahoma fugitive wanted for sexually assaulting a child and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Charles Dyer, a 31-year-old ex-Marine from Duncan, was caught around 8 a.m. Thursday, August 25, about 30 miles southwest of Houston. Someone spotted a man matching his description walking in a neighborhood in Pecan Grove, Texas.
In his older mug shots, Dyer was bald and clean shaven. The man a Fort Bend County Sheriff's Deputy stopped and questioned on the street had close-cropped black hair and a beard.
After talking to the man for a few minutes, the deputy arrested him and took him to the Fort Bend County Jail. Authorities used a fingerprint check to confirm the man was Charles Dyer.
The FBI launched its search for Dyer after he failed to appear in court on August 15 on charges he raped a 7-year-old relative.
The agency deemed Dyer armed and dangerous, saying he's a member of a militia group called Oath Seekers. On Tuesday, August 23, the FBI put up digital billboards in 12 states to help find the ex-Marine.
