STILLWATER, Oklahoma – With Oklahoma State preparing for its season to begin in just 12 days, three true freshman have been turning heads in practice and could see the field right away.

Receiver Josh Stewart and running backs Herschel Sims and Desmond Roland have all given positive impressions to their coaches and teammates alike.

"Those three guys really got a chance to come in and play right away," quarterback Brandon Weeden said. "I think they're going to make our team better. Having a guy like Josh Stewart behind [Josh] Cooper is going to really make us pretty deadly. It's a nice 1-2 punch."

Stewart is small – standing at 5-feet-10-inches and 163 pounds – but is quick and agile. He could see a small amount of time playing in the slot on offense, but his biggest contribution likely will come on special teams. He could begin the season as the Cowboys' main kick and punt returner.

Sims entered this season as the Cowboys' highest-rated recruit, and he has not disappointed. Rated the No. 2 running back recruit in the nation, he has been clocked with a 4.4 40-yard dash and is able to change directions quickly.

Roland came to OSU with lower expectations, but exceeded them immediately. He lacks Sims' quickness, but is bigger and more physical. Both running backs will need to compete with Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith for playing time, but all four could be used as part of a backfield committee.
