OKLAHOMA CITY -- Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. has installed a giant QR code made out of sticky notes inside the first floor of Leadership Square.

A QR code stands for "Quick Response code." It's basically a specific matrix barcode that is machine readable and designed to be read by smartphones. The code consists of colored modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, a URL, or other data.

Oklahoma City residents have written down their favorite things about the city on the individual sticky notes. Many of the expressions were collected via Facebook and Twitter. When scanned, the QR code directs smart phones to the Downtown OKC website.

"This display is designed to work in conjunction with our ‘Downtown It!' talking bubbles campaign to increase awareness of all the great things happening in our seven downtown districts," said Jill Brown DeLozier, marketing director for Downtown OKC, Inc.

Downtown OKC, Inc. president Jane Jenkins hopes the project will highlight downtown restaurants, retailers and services.

"Matt Goad and the team at Funnel Design helped formulate this idea, and we think it will generate buzz in the community and hopefully bring more people downtown despite the construction challenges right now," Jenkins said.

The QR code can be seen and scanned 24 hours a day through the north window of Leadership Square's north tower.
