EDMOND, Oklahoma -- The Edmond Public Schools Board of Education approved a school attendance area realignment plan at its meeting Wednesday.  Some children from the Fenwick, Whispering Creek, Ripple Creek, and Summer Oaks neighborhoods will be affected Superintendant David Goin reported.

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, elementary students in the Angie Debo Elementary School area of the Fenwick neighborhood will attend West Field Elementary School.  Middle school students will continue to attend Summit Middle School and high school students will continue to attend Santa Fe High School.

Families who wish to transition to the new schools this year will be allowed to do so.

Families who wish to keep their children in the school in which they are currently assigned will be "grandfathered" and allowed to remain at their current school if they fill out a transfer request, Goin said.  The grandfather provision only applies to children enrolled for the 2011-2012 school year (it does not include younger siblings who are not yet enrolled) and will remain in effect as long as the student is continuously enrolled at Angie Debo Elementary School.

Effective with the 2012-2013 school year, the attendance area for Whispering Creek, Ripple Creek and Summer Oaks neighborhoods will be Sunset Elementary School, Central Middle School, and Santa Fe High School.

Families wishing to make the transition for the current school year will be granted a transfer to Sunset or Central if requested.

Families who desire for their children to remain at Charles Haskell or Summit will be "grandfathered" into the current school and feeder pattern upon completing a request for transfer.

This provision is limited to students enrolled for the 2011-2012 school year (does not include younger siblings not yet of school age) and will remain in effect as long as the student is continuously enrolled in Charles Haskell or Summit.

As with other intra-district transfers, transportation to and from school will be the responsibility of a student's parent or guardian.

Transfer requests must be submitted no later than April 16, 2012.
