Oklahoma State Holds First Fall Scrimmage

Posted: Updated:

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Just eight days after starting fall practice, the Oklahoma State Cowboys held their first full scrimmage of the 2011 season Saturday. After running nearly 170 plays Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is pleased with what he saw.

"That was one of the best scrimmages we've had here in seven years. It was a lot of fun for me as a coach to watch our guys compete," Mike Gundy said. "We had a lot of effort and saw some young guys make some plays. It was just a lot of fun being out there for two and a half hours."

The scrimmage provided the Cowboys an opportunity to go full-speed with the new offensive system of offensive coordinator Todd Monken, after replacing the Dana Holgorsen offense from a season ago.

"It's our first scrimmage and the first time we ran a lot of those plays live. It's a building block and we've got the speed of the game down," Justin Blackmon said. "I would say it was a good first step, but we've got a lot more to go."

Oklahoma State officially starts its 2011 season at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.
