STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma State Cowboys returned to the practice fields Monday, for a "much better" practice than Sunday's session.

After a nearly three hour workout Sunday, head coach Mike Gundy was less than impressed with his Cowboys.

"I thought today's practice was average. Our guys have to move around better," Gundy said. "Our tempo on offense wasn't as good as it needs to be. Defensively, our mental approach wasn't as good as it needs to be. There is some adjustment based on putting pads on for the first time, but we should be more mature than that and get more out of practice."

Gundy went on to say, "Overall, that wasn't the type of practice we need to be successful early in our schedule so I would fully expect to get much better tomorrow."

And much better is what he got.

Oklahoma State took the fields at 7:30 Monday morning once again dressed in shoulder pads and shorts, and after practice, coach Mike Gundy gave his assessment of what he saw.

"The attitude was better, it was more physical and the tempo was better," said Gundy. We practiced well enough to have success. It was much better today."

Coach Gundy also pointed to a pair of true freshman who stood out during practice Monday.

"James Castleman was making a few plays for a guy who doesn't know what he's doing. Josh Stewart makes a few plays. Joe Mitchell showed up some. Hubert Anyiam is making some plays, which is good," Gundy said. "All the regular guys are making a bunch of plays."

Oklahoma State returns to the practice field Tuesday for its first day of full pads practice.
