OKLAHOMA CITY – Olympic swimming gold medalist Cullen Jones is stopping by Oklahoma City Community College to meet six young Oklahoma swimmers On Thursday, August 11, as part of the "Make a Splash" program around the country.

Jones will teach a water safety instruction class at 2 p.m. in the OCCC Aquatic Center.

"Make a Splash" is a national child-focused water safety initiative designed to teach every child in America how to swim.

Organizers say they started this program because studies show nine people drown each day in the U.S., and children from non-swimming households are eight times more likely to be at risk for drowning.

By promoting the "Make a Splash" program in seven different states around the country, organizers say they are hoping to raise awareness of water safety, especially with children.

This event is hosted by OCCC, Chesapeake Swim Club and USA Swimming Foundation.
