Missouri has a new law that makes it illegal for state teachers to "friend" their students on Facebook.
I don't think we need a law for that, but certainly school district policy against it would be wise.
Matt from Edmond writes: "So you're against the government telling us what to eat at McDonalds but are completely fine with them telling us who to friend.."
A Teacher chimes in: "The Facebook page that I maintain for students has been helpful in detecting instances of cyber bullying.."
Ann in Del City says her dad was a teacher: "He would have never compromised his position of authority over his students, not to mention have his actions construed as anything but aboveboard."
Chris from Norman: "I don't see any problem with students being Facebook friends with teacher. Students might have to ask them questions about the homework."
Dany in Del City: "Most of the teachers that I know who do this have made kind of like a class room page."
Tamera: "I want to keep my personal life and my professional life as separate as possible. There is no way that I would "friend" a student."
Finally Melissa in Duncan: "I teach high school and personally don't accept students friend requests until they have graduated."
