OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks scored runs early that allowed them to weather a late rally in a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Sounds Wednesday.

The RedHawks (47-58) scored single runs in each of the game's first three innings, led by two RBIs from J.R. Towles and a third from Koby Clemens to take a 3-0 lead. OKC doubled the lead with three more runs in the sixth and carried a 6-0 lead into the ninth.

But the Sounds (51-54) would not go quietly. After connecting on only six hits in the game's first eight innings, they recorded four in the ninth. Logan Schafer put Nashville on the board with an RBI single, and then scored as part of a two-run single by Edwin Masonet.

OKC suddenly was in danger of surrendering the lead, but Mickey Storey – who pitched the entire ninth inning despite his issues – induced a pop-up to end the game.

Storey's issues came at the end of an otherwise dominant pitching performance by the RedHawks. Lucas Harrell (2-0) held Nashville scoreless on only four hits in six innings to earn a win, and Sammy Gervacio followed by allowing only two hits in two innings.

Meanwhile, the Sounds' pitching staff had the opposite pattern; it was strong at the end, but weak at the start. Amaury Rivas (7-10) gave up all six runs on 10 hits in only five innings of work, but his relievers combined to allow just one hit for the rest of the game.

The RedHawks now have five of their last six games, but their recent success has done little to change their spot in the standings. They remain 14 games behind first place and their elimination number remains at 26.

They will continue their long home stand with another matchup against Nashville at 7 p.m. Thursday.
