NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Food for Friends is one of several programs in Norman that helps low-income people get healthy meals for free.

But some people would apparently rather resort to fraud to obtain assistance--including food stamps.

The Cleveland County District Attorney has charged a Norman woman, Karen Larimore, with fraudulently obtaining almost $11,000 in public assistance. Over $700 of that alleged fraud was in food stamps.

"It's a problem, especially when you know there are people out there who do need this assistance and are going about it the right way," said District Attorney Greg Mashburn. "And then you have people who are scamming the system."

Food for Friends serves a free breakfast and lunch to anyone who comes in the door Monday through Saturday.
