OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 16-month-long investigation by the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) led to the arrest of more than 30 Oklahomans.

They are accused of making false statements to obtain housing benefits.

Twenty-two people face criminal charges in federal and state court. Sixteen people are being charged with obtaining money under false pretenses in order to receive financial housing assistance from HUD.

Sanford Coats, U.S. attorney for the western District of Oklahoma, says they believe they defrauded HUD of approximately $750,000.
