My 2 Cents: Does Florida Owe Casey Anthony Protection?

Posted: Updated:

Casey Anthony is scheduled to be released from prison Sunday although I wouldn't be surprised if they secreted her out of the jail between now and then. And that brings up an interesting dilemma.

Since the government brought the case against Casey Anthony after her daughter disappeared, and since she was acquitted, and since there is now such vitriol toward her, doesn't the government have a responsibility to protect her?

You're groaning, I know, but think about it.

She wouldn't be public enemy number one if she hadn't been publicly prosecuted in what became a television freak show.

Should the taxpayers of Florida pay for bodyguards for Casey Anthony, or a witness protection program type makeover with name change and perhaps plastic surgery?

I've said before that I believe the jury just threw out common sense when it rendered its not guilty verdict.

Even so, can the government thrust a citizen into the spotlight like that and then when she's acquitted push her into an outraged court of public opinion with no protection?

Something to think about.
