GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- Local hero, Sgt. Rusty Dunagan, will be honored with a spaghetti dinner, bake sale and auction to raise funds to help him and his family on July 16.
The dinner will be held at the American Legion building in Guthrie from 5 to 9 p.m.
Dunagan was struck by an IED while on patrol in Afghanistan on the morning of September 22, 2010. The bomb explosion caused Dunagan to lose both legs and his left arm, making him one of only 23 surviving triple amputees from this war.
One month after the incident, Dunagan was presented with a Purple Heart. Despite his injuries, Dunagan has made it his goal to live life to the fullest and take nothing for granted.
A tribute event will also be held in honor of Dunagan at Lazy E Arena in Guthrie on August 6. This event features a live and silent auction of numerous donated item include Southwest Airline Tickets, Redhawks Tickets, A Cruise for two and more.
