OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks survived a ninth-inning scare to win their third straight game 3-2 over the Iowa Cubs Wednesday.

The RedHawks (37-50) seemed to have things well in hand entering the ninth. They held a 3-0 lead and had only allowed six hits in the first eight innings.

Casey Fien took over on the mound for OKC and struck out two of the first three batters he faced. Bryan LaHair then entered as a pinch hitter and looked at two straight strikes to bring the Cubs (41-46) one strike away from defeat.

But LaHair crushed the next pitch he saw to drive home two runs and in the blink of an eye bring Iowa back to within one run. Fien recovered well and struck out the next batter on three pitches the end the game and earn his third save.

Oklahoma City carried a 2-0 lead for most of the night after J.B. Shuck and Collin DeLome connected on back-to-back RBIs in the third inning.

The score did not change until the eighth, when Koby Clemens delivered an RBI double. That seemed to be nothing more than insurance at the time, but turned out to be the game-winning run.

Andy Van Hekken (3-4) turned in his second consecutive strong start for OKC, holding the Cubs scoreless through six innings on six hits to earn a win. Nicholas Struck (0-1) also only gave up six hits in his time on the mound, but they resulted in two earned runs and a loss.

Wednesday's victory gave Oklahoma City a three-game sweep of the Cubs and was a much needed improvement from a five-game losing streak.

The RedHawks will remain at home for a four-game series with the Omaha Storm Chasers starting at 7:05 p.m. Thursday leading into the Triple-A All-Star next week.
