OKLAHOMA CITY – Police are seeking the public's help in tracking down a rape suspect who raped, robbed and threatened to kill a woman Thursday.

Police said the man broke into a home in the 1600 block of east Park Place. He was described as a black man with a receding hairline. The suspect is in his mid-forties with a slender build and a noticeable discoloration on his left cheek.

Police said the victim woke up to find a stranger hovering over her bed. She told authorities he held her by knife point and threatened to kill her if she made a sound. The attack happened while her children slept in the next room.

News of the attack spread quickly.

Vernevia Thomas, one of the victim's neighbors, has lived on Park Place for 30 years. The daycare owner said she's seen her fair share of crime, but has never been fearful until now.

"I am very much concerned and it's kind of scary, this close to home," she said.

Courtney Kendricks was also scared.  "I was here, paranoid, making sure all the doors were locked.  I just don't want it to happen to me."

Berdelle Davidson, another neighbor, said he's not afraid.  "If he comes here, I'm going to kill him.  Straight up.  I'm going to kill him.  He raped a woman.  I don't know how many women he'd rape, and the detective told me he's been breaking in houses around here, but if he comes here, I'm going to kill him."

Police have circulated a sketch of the rapist throughout the neighborhood, but it hasn't produced any leads so far.

"From the sketch that the police lady showed me, I don't remember seeing anyone like that," Thomas said.

Davidson, however, said he has seen someone who looks like the suspect so he's sitting on his porch looking out for the homeowners in the area, especially the defenseless.

Thomas said she's still afraid.  "It makes me nervous.  Sure I'll be glad when they catch him because you don't know who is next or who was before her.  I am very much concerned."

Police are asking for the public's help in solving this crime.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 235-7300.
