NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Sooners have a new voice joining the football broadcasts this season as the university announced Thursday that Chris Plank will join the team on the Oklahoma Sooners Football Radio Network.

Plank, the program director at AM1430 and AM1300 The Buzz in Tulsa has been named the new sideline reporter for the football radio broadcasts.

Plank completes the broadcast team that includes first-year play-by-play announcer Toby Rowland and analyst Merv Johnson, who will be in his 13th season behind the microphone.

"I am beyond humbled for this opportunity," said Plank. "I have so much respect for Bob Stoops and Sooner Football. After working the Spring Game it felt natural to work with Toby and I am excited to be a part of his first year as the Voice of the Sooners.

"I can't describe the amount of energy and hard work I'm going to put into this. Sooner Fans deserve the best it means a lot to me to be a part of the broadcast crew."

Plank fills a position previously held by Rowland. In addition to his sideline role, Plank will host the 45-minute pre-game show and handle post-game interviews from the Sooner locker room.

"Chris has worked for us on various broadcasts and obviously we've known about his work in Tulsa and his national appearances with FOX," said athletics department spokesman Kenny Mossman. "He'll be an asset with a good presence on the air and professional delivery.

"We're also excited to add a broadcaster from the Tulsa market. There are thousands of Sooner fans in and around Tulsa so it's exciting for us to bring someone from that part of the state to our network."

Plank has been with Clear Channel since 1997. Clear Channel owns the AM1430, AM1300 and KMOD, the station that carries Sooner football. He co-hosts the Big Show each weekday from 2-6 p.m., on the AM stations.

He also has done play-by-play and sideline reporting for Cox Communications on statewide broadcasts and has served as the play-by-play radio announcer for both Jenks and Bixby High School.

Plank's previous experience with Oklahoma broadcasts included play-by-play work on the women's basketball game against Georgia in 2009 and a men's game against Gonzaga in 2010, along with sideline duties at the 2011 spring game.

Plank graduated from Tulsa in 1997. His is married (Sarah) and has two children (Will and Emma).
