OKLAHOMA CITY -- A police chase ended in northwest Oklahoma City when the suspect crashed into a power pole.

About 10:45 Wednesday night, an Oklahoma City police officer started following what he thought was a stolen car on Interstate 35 and S.E. 15th Street.

Once the officer confirmed the car was stolen, he waited for more officers to arrive before he tried to stop the car. But the driver refused to pull over.

The chase lasted 30 minutes and reached speeds up to 120 miles per hour. To end the pursuit, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper performed a tactical move and rammed the stolen car. The driver lost control, hit a curb and slammed into a power pole at N.W. 63rd Street and Rockwell.

"Anytime we feel that the public safety is an issue, we will terminate the pursuit. At no time did we feel public safety was in jeopardy," Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Brandon Schneider said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He was then arrested and taken to jail.

The power pole was repaired. Electricity in the area went out for less than a minute.
