OKLAHOMA CITY -- The U.S. Postal Services is considering relocating a busy Oklahoma City Post Office branch.  For its regular customers, that sounds like code for closure and more drive time.

Rochelle Atkins visits the MLK branch about three times a week to send packages to her family who live out of town.

"I really don't like it," said Atkins.  "If they close it then that's gonna have to detour me."

T.W. Lee lives within walking distance of MLK station.  For him, the prospect of traveling farther away to conduct post office business is a financial one.

"Go way downtown, or Midwest City or somewhere to do your business at the post office," said Lee.  "You're spending more money."

A meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 23 at the Calypso Room of Springlake Metro Tech to discuss MLK station's future.  If the USPS decides to close it, it will be relocated to the Eastside location at 701 North Kelley Avenue.

United States Postal Service Communications Programs Specialist Dionne Montague gave News9 the following statement:

"The Postal Service regularly reviews and evaluates its post office operations in a continuing effort to better meet customers' retail needs, improve productivity, increase efficiency and cut costs.  We evaluate retail sales, customer traffic, PO Box usage, employee complement, service standards, cost savings, parking, customer access, environmental impact, real estate values and the long-term needs of the service."
