Norman Residents Still Picking Up Pieces After Storms

NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Two days after a brief but powerful storm hit Norman, the whine of the chainsaw is heard in many a neighborhood. Crews are busy cutting up and carting off limbs and branches.

And northeast side homeowners like Jerry Wheeler are wondering when they will get their electric service back.

"[OG&E crews] just come through and just keep on going," Wheeler says.

This morning the number of Norman OG&E customers without electricity numbered just over a thousand.

OG&E crews went house to house, pole to pole, backyard to backyard, trying to tie up the last remaining loose ends.

Clyde Millus didn't have power this morning, but he's been through power outages before--and had a backup plan.

"We got a generator and running for fan and freezer and refrigerator and light.  I take it to my neighbor and share it with him every two hours," Clyde Mulls, a Norman homeowner said.

Wheeler has been without power for two days. But that didn't stop him from flipping the switch again and again.

"Every time I cut that corner, I'll hit a light switch.  It'll catch you off guard and you'll just stand there and laugh at yourself," he said.
