OKC Locations For Free Summer Meals For Kids

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Meals will be provided to all children aged 18 and younger without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The Regional Food Bank will provide free summer meals at the following sites:

• Ambassador Courts Housing, located at 800 S.E. 15th St. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon and afternoon snacks are served from 3 to 3:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Boys and Girls Club - Memorial Park, located at 3535 N. Western in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

• Capitol Hill Lions Center, located at 3816 S. Robinson, runs from June 15 to July 22, 2011. Lunch is served from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 2:40 to 3:10 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Columbus Schools, located at 2402 S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City, runs from June 15 to July 22, 2011. Morning snacks are served from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 1 to 2 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Coolidge Elementary, located at 5212 S. Villa in Oklahoma City, runs from June 15 to July 22, 2011. Lunch is served from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 2 to 2:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Douglass Community Center, located at 900 Caverdale in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon and afternoon snacks are served from 2 to 2:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Edwards Elementary, located at 1123 Northeast Grand, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. This site is closed July 4th.

• John Marshall High School, located at 12201 N. Portland in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• M.L. King Elementary School, located at 1201 N.E. 48th St. in Oklahoma City, is open from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and afternoon snacks are from 2 to 2:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• McKinley Park Center, located at 1300 N. McKinley Ave. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. and afternoon snacks are from 3:20-3:50 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Melrose Community Center, located at 7800 Melrose Lane in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Morning snacks are from 10:40 to 11:10 a.m. and lunch is from 1:40 to 2:40 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Minnis Community Center, located at 12520 N.E. 36th St. in Spencer, is open from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Morning snacks are from 10:40 to 11:10 a.m. and lunch is from 1:40 to 2:40 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Oak Grove Housing, located at 3301 S.W. 17th St. in Oklahoma City, is open June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 2:40 to 3:10 p.m. The site is closed on June 22. This site is closed June 22 and July 4th.

• Pilot Community Center, located at 1435 N.W. 2nd St. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Morning snacks are from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch is from 1 to 2 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Pitts Community Center, located at 1920 N. Kate Ave. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Afternoon Snacks are served from 2:40 to 3:10 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Rockwood Elementary School, located at 3101 S.W. 24th St. in Oklahoma City, runs June 15 to July 22, 2011. Morning snacks are served from 10:40 to 11:10 a.m. and lunch is served from 1:40 to 2:40 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Schilling Community Center, located at 601 S.E. 25th St. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 3:20 to 3:50 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Southern Oaks Community Center, located at 400 S.W. 66th St. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Lunch is served from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 3:20 to 3:50 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• Taylor Recreation Center, located at 1115 S.W. 70th St. in Oklahoma City, runs from June 15 to June 22, 2011. Morning snacks are served from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 1to 2 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• The Urban Mission, located at 3737 N. Portland in Oklahoma City, runs from June 6 to July 27, 2011. Lunch is served from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 3:20 to 3:50 p.m. The site is closed on Fridays and on July 4th.

• Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, located at 320 N.W. 79th St. in Oklahoma, runs from June 15 to July 22, 2011. Lunch is from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and afternoon snacks are served from 2:40 to 3:10 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• UMC Jets Summer Academy, located at 5001 N. Everest in Oklahoma City, runs from June 20 to July 7. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 12 noon and afternoon snacks are served from 2 to 2:30 p.m. The site is closed on Fridays and on July 4th.

• US Grant High School, located at 5016 S. Pennsylvania, runs from June 1 to July 29, 2011. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This site is closed July 4th.

• West Nichols Hills Elementary School, located at 8400 Greystone Ave. in Oklahoma City, runs June 1 to July 29. Is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon. This site is closed July 4th.

According to a 2010 survey of the Summer Feeding program, 90 percent of parents indicated that they needed Summer Feeding for their children.

"It helped by providing meals for my family when we didn't have enough food to eat at the end of the month," said one parent.

Last summer, the Regional Food Bank provided more than 75,000 meals to children through the Summer Feeding program, which includes the federal Summer Food Service Program, and a private Feeding Our Future program sponsored by Sodexo.
