FORT JACKSON, South Carolina -- A Fort Sill drill sergeant is one of four men and two women competing for top honors this week as the U.S. Army's Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

They've earned a place in the competition by winning local contests at Army installations in Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Drill Sergeant Felicia Frailey of Altus is representing Fort Sill.

'It's an ‘Amazing Race' type of competition. They don't know what they have to face. They go from Point A to Point B and complete tasks along the way,' Army spokesman Ray Harp said.

The contest started Monday.

They are judged on a punishing round of about 50 events, ranging from physical fitness tests to situations where they instruct soldiers on tasks like throwing grenades or organizing recruit runs while they call the cadence.

The U.S. Army says it has 2,300 drill sergeants in the active duty ranks and 3,000 in the Army Reserves.

Sgt. Felicia Frailey is a Drill Sergeant with the 434th Field Artillery Brigade at Fort Sill.  She graduated from Altus High School in May 2000. In December 2004, she enlisted in the United States Army.
