OKLAHOMA CITY -- A bizarre 12-hour standoff between police and a suspect driving a stolen truck ended Sunday evening near downtown Oklahoma City.

Francis Eugene Jones, 30, was taken into custody after he holed up in a crawl space of a vacant house.

An Oklahoma City Police spokesman said the incident began around 5:30 a.m. Sunday when a campus security officer from Oklahoma City University attempted to pull over a truck with a broken light.

The driver of the truck didn't stop and led the officer on a chase down N.W. 23rd Street. The truck crashed and the driver fled on foot.

Officers tracked the suspect to a house near N.W. 6th and McKinley where they believed he crawled under the house.

A K-9 unit was sent in and made contact with the suspect but was unable to dislodge him.

The tactical team then attempted to get the suspect to come out by using its robot and rounds of tear gas, but the suspect still wouldn't come out.

Police apparently began dismantling a portion of the porch where they believed the suspect was hiding and eventually took the man into custody around 7 p.m. and turned him over to the OCU campus police.
