OKLAHOMA CITY -- New details are coming to light in a police shootout that left one man dead Tuesday in northwest Oklahoma City.

Though the medical examiner's office has not confirmed it, family members said 20-year-old Clay Howell died following a chase in which gunfire erupted as police pursued an allegedly stolen car containing Howell and 21-year-old Mandirous Kamisizion.

Howell's family said police are giving them very little information about the shooting and they don't know if Howell was the driver or the passenger in the car.

The incident started as a reported stolen car. When police caught up to the vehicle, the men led officers on a chase. Shots were fired between the officers and the occupants of the vehicle.

The car crashed near 58th and Portland. Both Howell and Kamisizion fled on foot. Howell collapsed in a parking lot. Kamisizion was taken into custody and held for police by a security guard working at a nearby business.

Howell's family said they are in shock. They said the 20-year-old wanted to join the Marines so he could pay for college. They said they are not sure how he knew Kamisizion or what they were doing together.

Kamisizion is in the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill.
