Dangerous Drug Linked To Konawa Death Easily Accessible Online

KONAWA, Oklahoma -- A man arrested in connection with a deadly drug overdose at a party in southeast Oklahoma appeared in court Monday.

Police say 20-year-old Cody Weddle supplied party-goers in Konawa with a hallucinogenic drug that killed one person and sickened several others.

Weddle is being held without bond on a complaint of first-degree murder in 22-year-old Stacy Jewell's death.

"She just kept having one seizure after another," Ricky Prindle, who attended the party, said. "After she came out of one she would say a little bit like she was hallucinating, telling us to get away from her. And then she would go into another bad seizure and cough up more blood."

That drug, 2C-E is so new, many doctors and police officers haven't heard of it yet.  But your kids probably will soon. It's fast, it's cheap, and can be bought over the internet.

It's a designer drug, a mix of ecstasy and LSD. What terrifies drug counselors is that the kids at that party may not have been breaking the law when they overdosed.

All it takes is a click of the mouse and a credit card for 2C-E to show up in your neighborhood. News On 6 found the designer drug for sale on a website. The sellers ship from all over the world.

"It's also got to be pretty affordable because these kids are buying it like crazy." Brad Collins, with Palmer Continuum of Care, said.

Substance abuse counselor Brad Collins says for now, 2C-E is under the radar because the concoction doesn't fit into a specific drug category; 2C-E is legal, but the high mimics drugs like LSD.

"Sound gets distorted. Sound gets changed. The optical experience gets distorted and changed," Collins said.

A quick internet search shows people interested in trying out the drug asking what it feels like.

Just one response: "This takes me far, far beyond anything else I've ever experienced. There is nothing else quite like it."

"They can go in and get basically, testimonials. Okay, it's not illegal and we don't really know exactly what's in it or how much of what's in it - but here's the effect you'll get," Collins said.

"What has this world come to if they can put stuff like this on the internet and can't be sued to take the darn stuff off," Lida Beckman, Stacy Jewell's mother, said. "They can still sell it and I can't do a thing about it."

It promises a quick fix. Beckman says all 2C-E is now is another front line in the war on drugs.

It took less than five minutes to figure out where to buy the new drug online.  Another reason parents should always be aware of the websites their kids visit.
