OKLAHOMA CITY -- One of Oklahoma's own is gearing up for the flight of a lifetime as he prepares to ride on an Honor Flight.

The program carries out its namesake, honoring World War II veterans by giving them the opportunity to visit the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Bill Fuller is finally getting his chance. He's one of a select group of World War II veterans making the trip to Washington DC on Wednesday.

"I've wanted to go to Washington ever since they built the memorial," Bill said.

Bill served in the Army for three years in the states, and then in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was stationed in Okmulgee when he met his wife Mary.

"He's been excited from the minute that they called him and told him that he had been selected," Mary Fuller said. "We've prayed about this and know that this is what the Lord wants us to do. And our older son David is going to meet the bus in Baltimore and be with him all through that time so he can help him see things."

Bill's son will need to help him see things because Bill has macular degeneration, which is slowly robbing him of his eyesight. But that won't stop him because he's on a mission to make the trip that his brothers were never able to.

"They're all three dead now, but we all were in different services," Bill said.

Bill said he plans on honoring them by making this Honor Flight.

Bill said he knows it will be a long trip, and he might get a little tired, but he's not doing it only for himself.

Bill said that one criteria for making the trip is that he has to be able to walk the length of a football field. He has a brand new walker, and has been practicing every day.
