Several Bridges Near Fort Smith, Arkansas Reopen After Runaway Barge Recaptured

Authorities say bridges in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas have reopened after a runaway barge was captured.

ROLAND, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities say bridges in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas have reopened after a runaway barge was captured.

Police in Fort Smith told KFSM that all bridges over the Arkansas River were reopened by 11 p.m. Sunday. A bridge near Roland in eastern Oklahoma, the Interstate 540 bridge from Van Buren to Fort Smith in western Arkansas, the Lock and Dam Bridge near Barling and a bridge in Fort Smith were closed.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says the barge broke loose at the Port of Fort Smith and was recovered in the Arkansas River in Fort Smith.
