OKLAHOMA CITY -- A judge has set the bond for a Matthew Mallory, a lifetime registered sex offender, for $1.2 million.

Mallory was led the short distance to the courthouse in handcuffs and chained to several other defendants.

Sheriff Dennis Banther said he has spoken with Mallory recently and said that Mallory is remaining calm. Mallory was recently brought back to Oklahoma after apparently trying to flee to Mexico with his 14-year-old niece. They were found near San Antonio, Texas last week.

Mallory and his niece are reported to have been engaged in a sexual relationship.

Mallory has been on suicide watch for the last few days and had marks around his neck where he reportedly tried to hurt himself while in custody.

Mallory's bond was set for $1.2 million, which is $200,000 for each of the five counts of child sexual abuse, and $100,000 for one count of failure to register as a sex offender and one count of child abandonment.

Mallory's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 6 at 9 a.m.
