Lost 4-year-old Girl Shows Up At Midwest City Home At 3 AM

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- It was a wakeup call one Midwest City man never expected to get. Now, an Oklahoma City couple is facing child endangerment charges after their four-year-old knocked on the man's door at 3 a.m.

The little girl was alone and barefoot. And police say her parents were at their home miles away in Oklahoma city.

It was about 3:30 in the morning when Ron Doyle's puppy started barking, and then he heard a child yelling and banging on his door.

"I opened up the door and it was this little girl I've never seen before," Doyle said.

Doyle brought the girl inside, and then called 911. Police questioned neighbors and was able to figure out the girl belonged to a couple who had visited Doyle's next door neighbor.

That neighbor wouldn't talk to News 9, but told investigators the couple came over at about Midnight to look at a juke box he had advertised on Craig's List and stayed for more than three hours.

"When we talked to them and they said they did have a daughter, and when they left the resident in Mid West City and got back to Oklahoma City, they realized she was missing," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes.

Police questioned Randy Tosto, the child's father.

"He indicated to us that while they were talking about the juke box no one left the child alone, that the child was sleeping in the back of the truck and when they left they didn't realize the child was not there," Chief Clabes said.

All the ingredients for disaster, says Chief Clabes. Fortunately it didn't end that way.

"Our hats off to the resident who called us luckily he heard the knock at the front door, he could have ignored the knock and stayed in bed and we don't know where that child would be today," Clabes said.

That child is in protective custody. The child's mother was also asked to come in for questioning, but refused.
